Typical Weekday Evening

After a tiring day at work , I headed back home , as usual I had to stop over at the super market around the corner.Walked right in and made it to the freezer , I had to pick up some Milk & bread for the next days breakfast .Everytime I do that I completely believe that was the last thing I always wanted for breakfast. The crusty whole wheatbread reminds me of the roughness of the semi solid mixture of certain grains fed to cows in India. And milk is like the cows went on a diet or something. Cant blame them,Try to adopt the fat free revolution. Its like people wanna eat Chocolates, cheese & ice creams , but cant take a cup more of rice or chappathis .As long as i lived in India I never bothered about the authenticity of the Indian cuisine. Today I stand here berieved of the Auspicious Indian food . Its like I have missed some kind of Spice in a Biriyani or
something.Until this day I never believed that Food is the bestest companion in Life .It literally drives your life . People have come up with so many ways to define the importance of food , but i would keep it
at that.Anyways, coming back to the super market coz it's freezing in here ,I dashed to the counter before the Lady with 3 baskets of
items to be billed, made it. Success ,I made it on time with an additional effect of a sulky stare from the lady. As usual my bill came upto a value which I could never understand in the Dutch language .twei euro zeven cents ( that would be 2.07 euros) , when I don understand I normally give a big smile and manage to ask for the bill ,that buys me enough time to glance at the total bill amount display at the back of the counter . I paid the money and as usual forgot to carry a bag to collect the items I purchased .Balancing everything in 2 little hands god gave me I
reach home (not so sweet home). I still remember back in Bangalore how I would wait everyday just to get home and catch the most peaceful sleep. Here I just drag myself around work & Home to pass the days .Quickly I run through all the tasks that I can pipeline so that I can cook a proper meal as early as possible & I can getto bed before 11.00 .In a very efficient & calculative manner I keep the dal for boiling while I put away the stuff I just bought & freshen up. Meanwhile my roomie prepares the dough & sets the dinner table. With a little bit of slippage We cook Dal & Rotis. Now all the members of the house gather together and enjoy every bit of
the meal. We are sometimes literally Chanting God's name while we eat.Thanking god for the good food we get to eat. I remember how I always forgot to pray before my meals, now I pray before & after the meal. Finally the happiness of every muscle in the body, I settle down on the bed and doze away my fatigue thinking tomorrow is another day which brings me one day closer to the day I leave to India.

Workomaniac

The alarm screamed in my ears at 6 o clock. I slammed it down and thought for a moment, should I wake up or should I nap for some more time. A strange feeling crept over me saying, its too bright .I grabbed the alarm clock and read the time. Damn!! Its 6 o clock. What was I thinking?? 4 and I could sleep more!!
I jumped out of bed and got ready quickly as if someone had hit the fast forward button on me or something.
Still I was delayed by 5 mins. Rushed to the kitchen and did not find mom. The previous night mom had mentioned about her fever. So, I figured she must have overslept due to the Medication (Always happens to me).
I scanned the fridge for something edible. By edible I mean something that is sweet, fit for a breakfast and ready to eat and can be carried in the hand (so many specifications .so hard to find the best match)
Victorious I found an Apple. Took a bite and started for the bus stop. The Bus stop is about 10 mins from my house . If I really concentrate I could make it within 7 mins. I was just on time and could squeeze in a Good morning to the Newspaperwala and Hello to my neighbour. I walked as briskly as I could while I took a good bite of the apple.
Scanned my watch midway to check my timing. I was about a 100 yards from the bus stop , the bus would reach in 3 mins . It would take me exactly 3 mins to reach the Bus stop. I figured if I increased my speed I would land in 2 mins, giving me an extra 1 minute buffer .
Prepared myself like I was going to run a race or something with all my team cheering for me . All I could see was the finish line ( I mean the Bus stop). ( I sometimes like to do that to myself , just for the thrill, coz I know I may never get even close to the Races , forget races even Marathons)
Anyways, I was headed in full speed to reach the bus stop.
I kept scanning the road for all Green buses that went past. None yet.
Alas, I reached , checked the time. Bang on time as planned ..Executed as per schedule.
The happiness had no bounds ( just exaggerating , in Life things never happen as planned , little things like these do, so why not be happy). I had exactly 1 more minute for the Bus. I managed to finish the Apple ( my breakfast) .
Done, I waited for the Bus.
I waited .. 2 mins
3 mins.. 8 mins..
The bus is never later than 10 mins. I quickly dialed my Bus mate Seema’s number.
Ringing ....... No Answer '
Mumbling I tried again.
Ringing... A feeble voice on the other side : Hello !!! Like somebody inside a tunnel or something .
Seema, Are you on the Bus ?
Seema: What Bus ?
ME: Arey Office bus yaar!!
Seema voice more rough , why would I be on the Bus today ?
Impatiently ? Me : To go to office , what else ? Or are you on leave today ?
Seema ( laughing) : What’s the date today dear ?
Me : 14th June..
Oh my Godddd , Its Saaaa tttuuuuuuuuurday!!
What was I thinking .
Seema : Did ‘nt u even remember Saturday ??/
Totally flushed , I said “sorry to disturb you” and hanged up .
I was shocked , to know , me of all people had forgotten Saturday ..A weekend .
So caught up with work , I forgot my precious weekend .
If weekend was a person, he would have killed me .

I walked back home, reviewing all the efforts I had just been through since I woke up.
I could not stop laughing while I explained the whole incident to mom.

Sometimes in life we give priority to certain things and they take over us.
My lesson to take home was: Don’t let work get to you so much.
